The Chinese President will attend celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany and sign a number of documents.
The Soviet Union lost 27 million people in World War II but pushed the Nazi forces back to Berlin, where Hitler committed suicide.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay an official visit to Russia from May 7 to 10, where he will attend celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany.
According to a report by the international news agency Reuters, a statement issued by the Russian government on Telegram on Sunday said that Xi Jinping will pay an official visit to Russia from May 7 to 10 and will discuss the promotion of the strategic partnership between the two countries with President Vladimir Putin, and will also sign a number of documents.
The statement said that “during the talks, important issues of further development of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction relations, as well as current issues of the international and regional agenda, will be discussed.”
It should be noted that in World War II, the Soviet Union lost 27 million people but pushed the Nazi troops back to Berlin, where Hitler committed suicide and the red flag of the Soviet Union’s victory was raised over the Reichstag in 1945.
The presidents of Brazil and Serbia and the prime minister of Slovakia are also expected to attend the celebrations.
Vladimir Putin has proposed a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine to mark the May 9 celebrations, one of the most important days in the Russian calendar.
Responding to Moscow’s offer of a three-day ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was ready for it if the ceasefire lasted 30 days.
It should be noted that Vladimir Putin had already rejected the proposal for a month-long ceasefire, saying he wanted a long-term settlement rather than a short break.
The Ukrainian president has said that Ukraine, given the ongoing war with Russia, cannot guarantee the safety of any foreign dignitaries attending the traditional May 9 Victory Parade in Moscow.
