The federal government has expanded its transport monetization policy to include officers and judicial officers of the Islamabad High Court.
As per the Finance Division‘s notification, officers in grades 18 and 19 will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 45,000, while judicial officers in the same grades will receive Rs. 55,000.
This decision was made after examining the relevant rules, Supreme Court judgments, and references cited in the Islamabad High Court’s notification dated June 14, 2024.
The transport monetization policy was initially introduced in 2012 for federal government officers in grades 20, 21, and 22, and has been a topic of controversy.
The policy’s extension to officers and judicial officers of the Islamabad High Court is subject to the fulfillment of all necessary formalities. This move is seen as a step towards providing financial benefits to a wider range of government officials and is expected to have implications for the broader civil service.
The Controller General of Accounts’ letter dated August 6, 2024, served as the basis for the Finance Division’s notification. The letter clarified that the Finance Division had no objections to the policy’s extension, paving the way for its implementation.
As a result, officers and judicial officers of the Islamabad High Court will now receive a monthly transport allowance, bringing their benefits more in line with those of their federal government counterparts.
