A train derailment in northern Colorado caused hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel to spill overnight.
Officials say the train derailed near a residential area in Loveland just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
“A locomotive derailed off a switch; however, it did not tip over but it did puncture a fuel tank and hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel spilled out,” Loveland Fire Rescue Authority said in a Facebook post.
The fuel was contained before it got into any waterways, the emergency response agency added. Hazardous material crews are cleaning up hundreds of liters of diesel after a train derailment in Loveland, Colorado. Loveland fire authorities said they were notified at about 1 a.m. on February 7 of a train derailment on the Great Western Railway line. The agency said a locomotive derailed and punctured a fuel tank. Officials say the fuel was contained and did not get in to any waterways.
