Twitter to Unveil Video and Voice Calling

X, once called Twitter, changed a lot. Elon Musk’s smart moves led the way in a growing tech world. Looking past the alphabet focus, X’s rebrand is about moving from microblogs to a complete app. Although progress has been slow, CNBC reports that X is about to introduce a number of fascinating new features that could change the social media landscape. We are talking about the video calling feature.

X designer Andrea Conway has teased a future integrated voice and video calling feature. A recent cryptic post with the mysterious phrase “just called someone on X” gave us a glimpse into this exciting possibility. This discovery marks a big step. While X’s direct messages do voice calls, adding real-time voice and video chat would be groundbreaking. The current ‘Spaces’ feature is similar to Clubhouse’s shared audio experience. Obviously, it is a good feature. But its public nature does not support intimate one-to-one chats.

Voice and video calling could be added to X to elevate its status and bring it closer to social media giants like Facebook and Instagram. X can set itself apart from rivals like Threads and Bluesky by offering users a full range of chat options. Elon Musk first floated the idea of calling back in May. He was talking about the time when people could talk to people on the other end of the globe without phone numbers. In a recent interview, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, confirmed this and said that video calling would soon be available. The move is part of Musk’s overall plan to make X an “everything app.” Thus, it will be a flexible platform where artists can flourish, video content is abundant, payments are easy, and interactions are limitless.
