The European Union condemned on Saturday, the burning of the Holy Quran and warns of racism.
EU said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “We strongly reject the burning of the Qur’an, and this act does not in any way reflect the views of the union,” pointing out that “burning the Qur’an or other holy books is desecration, disrespectful and a clear provocative act.”
“Racism, xenophobia, any act of hatred has no place in Europe, It is deeply regrettable that such an act was carried out during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha,” the statement added.
Earlier, Turkey condemned a decision by Swedish authorities to approve a small Quran-burning demonstration outside a mosque in Stockholm on Wednesday, a move that may jeopardize Sweden’s bid to join NATO before the bloc’s key summit in July.
