Imran Khan asks Supreme Court to open investigation into May 9 assault

Imran Khan, former prime minister and leader of Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), told the Supreme Court of Pakistan about the May 9 violence that came to light after his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The ARY news agency reported that they asked to start an investigation. Saturday news.

The PTI chief addressed party members and supporters, asking them to leave their homes at 5 p.m.

The PTI chief said police had stopped him from leaving the Islamabad High Court (IHC) grounds, even though the court had granted him bail in several cases. “The police wanted to arrest me outside the court as part of the MPO [police maintenance],” he added.

“Democracy in this country hangs on a thin thread,” said Imran Khan, praising the judiciary for “saving democracy”. “The mafia is threatening and attacking the courts,” he said, calling on Pakistanis to defend the judiciary.

He went on to say that “the mafia is attacking the judiciary” but that this is the only obstacle to their “corruption”.

Khan said Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chairman Nawaz Sharif had ordered the attack on the Supreme Court (SC) and dismissed the then Chief Justice. “In the past, Nawaz Sharif destroyed an independent judiciary on the grounds of power,” he claimed.

He said that a country’s freedom would be lost if an independent judiciary was jeopardized, adding that it would protect the basic rights of its citizens. “The only reason Pakistan is not making progress is because there is no rule of law,” he added.

Imran Khan went on to say that the 145 lawsuits filed against him were “false” and praised the High Judiciary for “saving him from imprisonment for a fabricated lawsuit”.

“PTI is a peaceful political party.”

In his speech, the PTI president emphasized that his supporters have always maintained peace through 27 years of struggle. He said he could never forget May 25, when the state used violence against PTI supporters and activists.

The former prime minister claimed police officers had told him they had been ordered “from above”. He called off the sit-in in Islamabad following the May 25 state assault, saying he wanted to avoid violence.

He recalled that if they incited violence after his arrest, it would have happened after his assassination in Wazirabad last year. “People who want elections never want anarchy,” he added.

He recalled how police raided his home in Lahore while traveling to Islamabad for a court hearing. “On the same day, another assassination plot was thwarted at the Islamabad Judiciary Complex,” he claimed. Khan described his party as “peaceful” and reiterated that the PTI was the only political party in the country where families, including children, attended public rallies, and argued why he wanted anarchy in the country. .

He argued that it was not “their people” who caused the violence during the PTI protests, but that it was they who incited the people to violence. “More than 3,500 PTI personnel have been imprisoned and many have been killed across the country,” he claimed.

The PTI chief once again condemned the manner in which he was arrested by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
