Dissolve assembly immediately if you want talks to continue: Imran Khan told Govt

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday said talks with the coalition government will continue only if they are willing to dissolve the National Assembly immediately, ARY News reported.

Speaking to reporters at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the former prime minister said he had directed the PTI’s negotiating team to talk to the government only if they were now willing to dissolve the National Assembly.

“I have told Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Fawad Chaudhry to continue talks only if the government is willing to dissolve the assembly immediately and hold elections.

“There is no need to hold another round of talks if they (the government) repeat the same talk about holding elections in September or October,” he added.

During his informal discussion with reporters, Imran Khan further said that the “ball” is now in the government’s court on the issue of simultaneous elections.

“If elections are not held on May 14, it means the constitution is torn,” the PTI chief said, adding that the constitution is supreme, not parliament.

The PTI chief also slammed former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa for imposing a “gang of thieves” on the ground.
Second round of talks between the government and PTI today

Meanwhile, delegations of the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will meet again today (Friday) as the first round of talks on holding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) ended on Thursday.

Talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were held in the Parliament House to break the political deadlock over the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) elections and ended after nearly two hours.

PTI was represented in the talks by a three-member delegation – Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry and Senator Ali Zafar.

Meanwhile, the government panel comprises Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Senator Yousuf Raza Gillani, Saad Rafique, Naveed Qamar and Kishwar Zehra.

After meeting the journalists, Yousaf Raza Gilani of PPP, the ruling parties would consult each other and decide. “Whatever decision is made, it will be based on input from all parties,” he added.

The talks will resume tomorrow at 3 pm during which the PTI will present its demands, Gilani said, adding that the coalition parties will then be briefed on the PTI’s demands.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said it was decided in principle that the matters would be dealt with within the framework of the constitution.

Speaking to the media, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the consultation ended after two hours and stressed that political parties find solutions to problems through talks.

But he said his party would not allow the talks to be used as a delaying tactic before the election.
