MQM-P advises the coalition government to avoid a “clash” with the judiciary

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has advised the coalition government to avoid a “clash” with the judiciary, ARY News reported citing sources familiar with the matter.

Ministers including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are against the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision to hold elections in Punjab on May 14.

According to an inside story from a meeting of coalition partners led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday, the MQM-P opposed a confrontation with the Supreme Court.

“We should not take any step that will cause a ‘clash’ with the Supreme Court,” MQM-P ministers said during the meeting.

“MQM-P advises non-confrontation but does not say a way out,” PDM leaders said, according to sources, adding that there may be differences of opinion on the matter, but MQM-P is a coalition party. Sources also revealed that MQM-P is in touch with former Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was revealed that the federal government has decided to file an appeal against the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and two other judges of the Supreme Court (SC), a three-judge bench that overturned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to postpone Punjab. elections.

The decision was taken during a meeting of leaders of all coalition parties chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad.
