Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Additional Inspector General of Police Shaukat Abbas has revealed that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) detained a key suspect connected to the Peshawar mosque bombing that left dozens dead in January.
A senior police officer in a press conference today also claimed that the attack was carried out by a subgroup of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
KP police official stated that Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a TTP affiliate, was responsible for the incident. The person continued, “The bomber who carried out the strike is known as ‘Qari’ in the TTP circles.”
According to KP police, the person seized by law police was a “backup suicide bomber” who would have been deployed in the operation if the primary bomber was unable to detonate his vest.
The additional IG stated that the suspect, Imtiaz Khan, was apprehended by the CTD with assistance from law enforcement agencies.

He added that law enforcement had identified a “mastermind” and a “handler” connected to the bombs and that they were working to capture them.
The mastermind was identified as Ghaffar alias Salman. “We have found that Ghaffar was in contact with the suicide bomber on the day of the incident. We are trying to apprehend the handler and mastermind of the attack.
