KARACHI: The Karachi Electronics Dealers Association has given a 72-hour ultimatum to the Sindh government over robberies of mobile phones and cash worth more than Rs 3 crore.
In case of non-arrest of the dacoit and recovery of goods within 72 hours, all electronics markets of the city have been announced to be closed. President of Karachi Electronics Dealers Association Muhammad Rizwan Irfan along with Haji Nasir Turk and other officials while addressing a press conference on Monday said that the incidents of robberies and street crimes have reached their peak in Shahr Quaid. Street crime is out of control. Our shopkeepers are being robbed day by day.
Mohammad Rizwan said that on Sunday also mobile phones worth Rs. When we found out the location, Manghopir came, and informed Manghopir police station about it, but no action was taken. Similarly, a robbery of 35 lakh rupees took place at an electronics shop in Safora area on Sunday night itself.
He said that FIRs are filed but no action is taken so we are giving 72 hours ultimatum to the government and police. If the damage caused in these incidents is not recovered, the electronics markets across the city will be closed. We go to the police, they say we don’t have any personnel. Is the police only there for the security of VIPs?, despite the location of Manghopir being traced, the police did not go to the location.
The business leader further said that the locations of most of the stolen phones are coming from Afghanistan. It seems that the Prime Minister and the government are not interested. Despite the ongoing difficult situation, traders are doing business, yet we do not get security. Today it has become difficult for us to do business. We will now ask people to keep their licensed weapons with them because in the current situation we will have to protect ourselves.
He said that licensed weapons are not for use in weddings, now we will carry our weapons even after getting the permit. Our markets pay the highest taxes in this city. If the robbers are not arrested and our goods are not returned within 72 hours, the markets of the entire city will be closed. He said that the Sindh government has completely failed.
