SM Mehboob Alam, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh emphasized the need to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with Pakistan.
The representative spoke to a businessman during a visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and invited KCCI to send a business delegation to Bangladesh to explore business and investment opportunities for foreign investors.
In an interview with The Express Tribune, Zulfiqar Saber, president of the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAM), said, “The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Bangladesh should be concluded without wasting time.
He stated that this will benefit both countries with high potential for the development of imports and exports, and added: Increasing cooperation, partnerships and joint investments can increase the economic growth of both countries.
About 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have been established across Bangladesh with the aim of promoting investment and accelerating economic growth by increasing and diversifying industrialization, employment, manufacturing and exports, the representative said.
He said: We have so much potential for cooperation that we should cooperate with each other for the economic prosperity of the two countries.
He stressed: “There are challenges that need to be effectively addressed through collective efforts. When Bangladesh was born, it had zero foreign exchange reserves and most of its food products were imported. We have significant foreign exchange reserves.”
Mr. Alam noted that Bangladesh does not import food products because it is self-sufficient in domestic production. In addition, according to the 2041 vision, the country plans to become an advanced and smart country.
Investors from Japan, China, India and South Korea have already set up manufacturing units in Bangladesh. The business community in Pakistan should also step forward to benefit from our potential.
