According to JNN, the post-mortem examination conducted by a three-member forensic team at the General Hospital showed evidence of assault on his body and the cause of death was declared as torture.
According to journalist Zahler Curro, his postmortem report said he had been beaten. Separately, GNN reported that it also revealed that Bilal, 34, died of asphyxiation during the attack.
“The fact that the video of him in the police car is old or new is not as important as the fact that there are clear signs of a blow to the head or near the head. Focusing solely on the video is distracting,” Khoro said. .
The post-mortem report has also been shared with Punjab Chief Minister Mohsen Naqvi and Specialized Health Minister Javed Akram, but it has not yet been made public, the report said.
Naqvi is said to have ordered an investigation into the incident.
Sharing a photo of the deceased and an image of his birth certificate, former Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted that Bilal was unarmed when he was “murdered by the police”.
He said it was a shameful act by the caretaker government to commit atrocities on unarmed party members participating in planned election rallies.
“Pakistan is falling into the hands of murderers. We will file murder charges against [the state police chief], [Lahore police chief] and others,” Khan said.
In another tweet, he published a video showing Bilal sitting inside a prison van. “So he was killed in police custody, the criminal tendencies of the present regime and the Punjab police,” he lamented.
Meanwhile, the United Nations is calling for an investigation into the incident.
In a statement, Farhan Haq, spokesman for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, said that people have the right to protest peacefully and those who commit violence against demonstrators must be held accountable.
Guterres also called for calm and restraint to reduce tensions.
