More than our government China seems to know what these unfortunate flood afectees need. A Chinese footwear company donated sports shoes worth 38 million rupees to victims of last year’s devastating floods in Pakistan.
The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) launched an initiative to “wear Chinese shoes and build a new home” in January.
According to the shoe company, the initiative is to “express our concern for the flood victims in Pakistan.”
Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Moinul Haque, expressed his sincere thanks to the company for its generous assistance to the flood-affected groups in the country.
Haqe said that the donation made him feel the warmth of the Chinese towards the Pakistani people again.
Heavy rains and unprecedented floods will submerge a third of Pakistan by 2022, affecting an estimated 33 million people and destroying hundreds of thousands of animals, homes, bridges, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure.
The near-apocalyptic floods have not only caused a massive $30 billion in damage to the troubled economy, but have also killed more than 1,700 people.
The monsoon comes after Pakistan was hit by a spring heatwave that sporadically hit parts of Sindh with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit).
According to scientists, extreme weather events are becoming more severe as a result of climate change.
Pakistan, the world’s fifth most populous country, accounts for only 0.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, but is one of the most vulnerable countries to extreme weather caused by global warming.
