A partial shutdown was observed in parts of Pakistan on Monday after Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan called for a nationwide shutdown to protest against reverse inflation.
Trade remains suspended in major markets in key cities including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad as the right-wing party there called for a nationwide strike on February 27 (today) against recent measures taken by the incumbent government.
Traffic in major cities was lower than usual, while markets in various areas were closed. Several malls and petrol stations were closed following the call of party leadership Saad Rizvi, while people faced several inconveniences as transport services remain partially suspended.
Apart from the market closure, agitators are recording protests in parts of Karachi and Islamabad. Protesters blocked arteries by setting tires on fire and placing other obstacles. As parts of major cities followed the strike call, only a few malls and markets in Lahore, Karachi and other metropolises remained open.
In a recent development, TLP chief Saad Rizvi called for a nationwide shut-door strike and reiterated that he is vocal for the rights of the masses. He was still forced to call a strike due to soaring prices of basic commodities and petroleum products.
