SC judges ask CJP to take suo motu on delay of Punjab Elections

The Supreme Court (SC) division has asked Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Omar Ata Bandial to take an urgent decision on the delay in announcing the date of elections in Punjab province, ARY News reported on Thursday.

Based on the details, two branches consisting of Judge Ijaz-ul-Hassan and Mazhaar Ali Akbar Naqvi heard a petition against the transfer of Ghulam Mahmood Dogar to the Lahore Metropolitan Police Department.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court asked Sikandar Sultan Raja of the Chief Election Commission (CEC) to submit a detailed report on the electoral hurdles in Punjab.

The court referred the matter to CJP Umar Attabandial to look into the matter and said the delay in the provincial elections was unconstitutional. “It is our constitutional, legal and moral duty to uphold the constitution,” the Security Council said, warning against the violation of constitutional rights.
