Mahmood Khan, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, announced on Saturday the provincial assembly would be dissolved Saturday night.
The decision was made after a summary recommending the dissolution of the parliament was prepared and signed by the chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Speaking at an event in Peshawar, Khan said the summary would be sent to Governor Haji Ghulam Ali, and copies would also be shared with journalists. “We will start again from zero,” he said, mentioning that middle-class people were concerned about soaring inflation.
He also pointed out the federal government was not releasing funds to the KP government, which was causing financial strain on government workers in the formerly Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). This move follows statements made by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) provincial president Pervez Khattak, who announced that the provincial legislation would also be dissolved after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly.
He urged PTI workers to begin preparing for the next election, stating that the government and its allies were avoiding the election as they could not face the public’s backlash for their flawed economic policies.
