An agreement on a new management model of technical and vocational training for local youth has been officially signed at the Pak-China Technical Vocational Institute, built with China’s support in Quetta-Gwadar. The signing ceremony of the agreement on the new management model of the joint operation of the Technical and Vocational Institute was held at the Gwadar Business Center. CO Dang Baozang signed a memorandum of understanding on a joint operation agreement between Shendong Institute of Commerce and Technology, Gwadar Port Authority, University of Gwadar, China Overseas Port Holding Company to provide technical and vocational training to the local youth of Gwadar. Short-term training courses and three-year diploma programs will be conducted free of charge, benefiting thousands of youth from Balochistan, Makran and Gwadar. Officers and employees of Versace Ports Holding Company, Gwadar Port Authority participated while teachers and officers of SICT joined the online ceremony.
Pak China Technical and Vocational Institute was awarded by the Chinese government to Gwadar Port Authority in September 2021. Empowering the youth of Makran/Baluchistan with modern vocational skills and training for their future needs, under which the local youth will be given access to Gwadar Port, Free Zones, Smart City, New International Airport and CPE. CK’s other projects related to trade, marine industry, market-based business, modern fishing methods, real estate, tourism, construction and hospitality and other related industries included imparting advanced training. According to the Joint Operation Agreement, the institute is responsible for providing space and support facilities to meet teaching, office and residential requirements in the existing new building and to coordinate with all government departments for relevant procedures as per the laws and regulations of Pakistan. While the institute will also cooperate with China Overseas Ports Holding Company for internship and preferential employment of qualified students. Gwadar University will be responsible for running this institution as per international standards. It will be in touch with the Gwadar Port Authority for day-to-day management, educational and administrative activities, operating expenses. Gwadar Port Authority officials said that during the initial temporary arrangement last year, around 150 trainees of the Prime Minister Youth Skills Development Program Under the auspices of the National Vocational and Technical Commission of Pakistan, the first batch passed six-month short courses through which the first batch became skilled and professional on-site in five trades including cargo handling, office management, Chinese language, crane operation and financial accounting.
Zhang Boazhong, chairman of China Overseas Port Holding Company, said that the youth of Gwadar are the main and fundamental stakeholders of the port city of Gwadar, the operation and management of the deep sea port, industrial and commercial business. Their participation is indispensable for long-term development initiatives. The aim of this institute is to create and enhance the capabilities of the active population of Gwadar to participate in the development of the port city. Plans show the coastal city will create 1.2 million jobs for skilled workers and professionals with an economic output of more than $30 billion.
