Former home minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid on Saturday asked the “establishment” to “stay away” from the upcoming bypolls in Punjab and prove its “fairness”.
“I want to discuss something important with the establishment. Tomorrow is a very important day. I have never seen such an election in the history of the country. I would like to request them to stay away from elections. The nation will tolerate any rigging. will not or ghunda gardi (thug),” he said in a video message posted on Twitter.
“The government will have to prove its impartiality in the by-elections to be held on 20 assembly seats in Punjab tomorrow,” he said.
20 seats are among the vacant (five reserved) after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified PTI MPs for voting for PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz in Punjab’s chief ministerial election.
The stakes are particularly high as the outcome of the election will decide who will become the chief minister in Punjab, for which re-election will be held on July 22.
Rashid also told about the government in his message today. Build The formation of a special ministerial committee to pursue high treason proceedings against top functionaries of the former PTI government, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“This is a detailed decision, not a [fresh] Decisions These people, who have been imposed on the country by one or two extra votes, are fools.”
He also asked the incumbent government to “not block” Imran’s path if the country voted for his party in tomorrow’s election. “If his path is blocked, a fire will spread that will engulf everyone.”
The former home minister termed Sunday a “test day for Pakistan’s political stability”.
Meanwhile, PTI chief Imran Khan made another reference to “Mr X and Mr Y” as he sent a message to his team when they were contesting the Punjab bypolls on Sunday “PMLN, state machinery, partisan Election Commission.
