  1. Fire erupts at Children’s Hospital pharmacy storage

As per details, the fire erupted at the third floor of the building and 7 rescue cars are at sight to extinguish the fire with full strength. While the rescue team said that the investigations will be done to see if anyone lit the medicine store on purpose.

Medicine stock worth of millions turned into ashes on the third floor. While firefighters are trying to eliminate combustion from one side of the building.

After eliminating the fire, police will collect clues for the forensics. All departments will be included in the investigation including MS, DMS and the security guards.

Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz directed secretary health to submit a report of the incident after detailed investigation while he also urged the authorities to find culprits behind the incident.

After 3 hours of rescue operation, firefighters are still trying to eliminate the fire. While the operations scheduled in the hospital for today got cancelled.

Rescue 1122 is using the help of a crane to eliminate the fire. However, no loss of life has been reported.

As per sources, the OPD has also been closed due to the fire while patients and their families are stuck outside the emergency department.

    OGRA APPROVES HIKING GAS PRICE UP TO 45 PER CENT

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has approved hiking gas prices for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) consumers by up to 45 per cent, ARY News reported on Friday.

After jacking up the prices of electricity and petroleum products, the federal government has decided to increase the gas price.

The authority okayed jacking up the gas rate for SNGPL consumers up to 45 per cent and 44 per cent for SSGC consumers. The gas price for SNGPL was increased up to Rs266.58 per mmBtu, fixing the per mmBtu rate at Rs854.52.

The new price per mmBtu gas for SSGC consumers was fixed at Rs1007 with an increase of Rs308.53.

The new gas prices will come into effect from July 1 following a notification to be issued by the federal government.

Yesterday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had approved an Rs7.91 increase per unit of electricity.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA, the government has increased the basic tariff per unit of electricity by Rs7.91. The per-unit price has been increased from Rs16.91 to Rs24.82, which is a 47% hike in prices.

NEPRA said that the price hike has been made due to an increase in fuel prices and increases in the cost of production. The new rates would be applied from July 2022, it added.

    TEXTILE MILLS ACROSS PUNJAB SHUT DOWN AMID GAS CLOSURE

Textile mills across Punjab province have been shut down amid closure of gas supply to the industries, a day after it emerged that medium and large scale industries have been shut down in the province following the disconnection of power supplies to them, ARY NEWS reported.

According to sources, the gas shortage was created owing to a delay in the purchase of imported LNG. “It may take multiple days for the restoration of the gas supply,” they said.

A spokesman for the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) confirmed that gas supplied to captive power plants of the textile mills has been suspended. “Once the LNG cargo reaches port and connected to the system, the gas shortage will be overcome,” he said.

Pakistan’s total foreign debt servicing is projected to climb up to $23 billion for the upcoming budget 2022-23 as repayment of commercial loans has now assumed a major chunk of the outstanding amount of $6 billion out of the total obligations.

In an alarming development, the country will have to repay on account of amortization and mark-up amount owed by the public sector alone to the tune of $49.23 billion over the next five years period from 2022-23 to 2026-27.

For outgoing fiscal year 2021-22, it is projected that total debt servicing requirements both in shape of principal and markup would be standing at $12.4 billion for whole fiscal year and so far the government paid out $6.253 billion repayments in first eight months till Feb 2022.

  1. Sindh to take over full control off JPMC, NICVD, NICH

Sindh and Centre will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with regard to allowing former to retain the control of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH).

It was decided in a meeting on Thursday between Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel and Sindh health minister Dr Azra Pechuho. On the occasion, the federal health minister also vowed to consult with the coalition partners for the amendments in the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) Act 2020, and claimed that the law was promulgated to benefit a mafia.

“I believe that provinces should be authorized to grant admissions to the medical colleges as per their own policies because they have separate educational systems in place at provincial levels.

We are going to consult coalition partners to make amendments in the PMC Act 2020 as early as possible,” said Patel. The federal health minister deplored there is no representation of Sindh in the Pakistan Medical Commission and vowed to bring amendments in the law to make it acceptable for all the provinces.

Abdul Qadir Patel expressed a resolve to continue supporting Sindh in provision of better health facilities to people of Sindh. Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho told the federal health minister that Sindh province had remained polio free for last two years and offered that the province could help other provinces in conducting effective polio vaccination drives to eradicate the menace for once and all.
