Turkey cannot abandon Russia, despite the aggravation of the situation around Ukraine. This was stated by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Turkey cannot make a choice in favor of Russia or Ukraine. We are aimed at such steps that would solve this issue without damaging our ties with these countries,” Anadolu quoted Erdogan as saying.
According to him, in this situation it is necessary to act very carefully.
The Turkish president stressed that he expects to hold talks with the Russian leader after negotiations with NATO partners. Erdogan added that the Alliance should take a clear position on the situation around Russia and Ukraine.
On the eve of the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the contradictions between Russia and Turkey on Ukraine do not become an obstacle for Moscow and Ankara to build bilateral relations.
Earlier it was reported that the Turkish leader invited the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky to the talks. According to Erdogan, Zelensky reacted positively to the idea of trilateral negotiations.
