The United States is concerned that 35 countries refused to support the anti-Russian UN resolution.
As international analyst Ted Carpenter writes in an article for The National Interest, the United States is making great efforts to create an international coalition against Russia, exerting unprecedented pressure on other countries for this purpose.
“And yet 35 countries refused to support America and chose to abstain instead,” Carpenter wrote.
It is noted that among those who did not join the Russian Federation, were the leading Asian countries – China and India. The author of the article believes that this is an alarming sign for the United States, because it clearly demonstrates the fragility of the anti-Russian alliance created by them.
“The extent of Washington’s discontent became clear when [US President Joe] Biden personally criticized both countries for their decision. India not only maintained its neutrality, but also led Sri Lanka and Bangladesh,” the analyst said.
On march 2, a UN resolution was adopted ordering Russia to withdraw all its troops from the territory of Ukraine and stop the use of force. 141 countries supported the resolution, five states opposed it, and another 35 countries abstained.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the United States practices “blackmail and arm-twisting” at the UN in order to turn its members against Russia and force them to vote against it.
