The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) is underway. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Afghanistan’s economic crisis will be catastrophic for the region.
The 17th Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries, hosted by Pakistan and a proposal by Saudi Arabia on the situation in Afghanistan, is underway in Islamabad.

Addressing the meeting, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed all the guests. “The people of Afghanistan are facing food shortages and this meeting is to raise awareness among the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
He said the meeting was important for Afghanistan’s survival as Afghanistan’s economic crisis would be catastrophic for the region. Forty years ago, Pakistan convened a similar meeting for Afghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the World Food Program has identified the food problem in Afghanistan and Pakistan is once again working to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Let the world go beyond everything and move forward on the Afghan issue.
He said that the nation and the international community should play their role in saving Afghanistan from human tragedy. Pakistan facilitated delivery of wheat and medicines to India. Half of Afghanistan’s population currently suffers from malnutrition.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in his address said that OIC pays tribute to Pakistan for holding the meeting and for its excellent arrangements. Pakistan held the meeting in the shortest time and Pakistan is grateful for holding the most important meeting.
He said that he was grateful to the OIC Secretary General and others for attending the meeting. The issue of Afghanistan must be looked at on a humanitarian basis as the Afghan people, including women and children, are suffering in Afghanistan and the economic crisis in Afghanistan could worsen. The people of Afghanistan are waiting for our help.
OIC Secretary General Ibrahim Hussain Taha in his address said that the convening of a meeting on Afghanistan was welcome and the excellent arrangements for the OIC meeting were commendable. The situation in Afghanistan is constantly being monitored. The people of Afghanistan are waiting for our help.
The Turkish Foreign Minister said that 60% of the population of Afghanistan is starving and the OIC resolution on Afghanistan should be implemented. Pakistan is grateful for its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
The Jordanian Foreign Minister said that Afghanistan is currently on the brink of a humanitarian crisis and the Afghan people are suffering from food shortages. Steps must be taken for the security of the Afghan people.

In addition, OIC Secretary General Hussein Ibrahim Taha, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will address. At the end of the meeting, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and OIC Secretary General will hold a joint press conference at 6:30 pm.
Due to this extraordinary meeting of the Interior Ministry, a local holiday has been observed in Islamabad on Saturday and Monday. Fool-proof security arrangements have been made in the federal capital on the occasion of the extraordinary OIC meeting.
The entry of ordinary citizens in the red zone is closed on the occasion of this meeting. Meanwhile, the first three stations of the metro bus service in Islamabad and all hiking tracks will remain closed. The highway is closed for traffic during the meeting.
